Dr. Aguirre is a Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware and a core faculty member of the Disaster Research Center. At the present time he is working on the human behavior dimensions of fire and on the validation of agent based computer simulation models using social behavioral processes.
Professor Aguirre obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology at Ohio State University. His specializations include Collective Behavior and Social Movements, Sociology of Disasters, and Migration and Ethnic Relations. He has taught courses such as Disasters and Development, Environmental Movements, Collective Behavior and Social Movement; Introduction to Sociology, Social problems, International Migration, American Minority Relations, and Qualitative Methods. He has received three Ful bright Awards and is past president of the Disaster Committee of the International Sociological Association.
Professor Aguirre is a member of the American Sociological Association, International Sociological Association, Society for the Study of Social Problems, and Southwestern Social Science Association, and an editorial member of the Social Science Quarterly, Disasters, and other journals. He is also a manuscript reviewers for a number of other journals.
