Abstract: The article discussed the selected methods of measurement systems analysis (MSA) in case of different devices usage. Analysis of variance is a common method, widely accepted and applied in industry to analyze measurement systems by taking into consideration different sources of variability: equipment, operators, parts and their interaction. Regression is a method which could simplify the analysis by shortening its time and decreasing sample size. It also may enable more clear and suitable answer. The included case study concerning two coordinate measuring machines (CMM) indicates the usefulness of the regression as a method for high precision and automated measurement systems comparison. Some actions resulting from the inferences can be undertaken by managers and engineers in industrial enterprises to reduce the cost of double measurements.

Monitoring and Measuring Surface Water in Semi-Arid Environment Using Satellite Data: A Case Study of Karachi

Abstract: Water is a dynamic and precious resource for all living creatures. Its significance is imperative for different sectors of economy at global and regional level. Sustainable use of land resources such as water is vital to carryout fundamental chores and has become an important area of investigation in developing and developed countries. Pakistan is an under developing country with agro-based economy and it is among the top of those countries which are facing acute water scarcity. World Bank has projected that by 2025 severe food shortage could be caused in Pakistan due to water scarcity.

Karachi is the most populous city of Pakistan with high consumption of water and food but semi arid climate conditions and drastic variability in rainfall pattern make it prone to desertification and drought. In Karachi Hydrological drought is closely associated with agricultural drought. Hence, monitoring, quantification and mapping of water is vital for better planning.

This Study is aimed at monitoring spatio-temporal variation of surface water in Karachi using Geoinformatic techniques. For this purpose four satellite images of Landsat -7 ETM + were used. Through NDWI spatial distribution of water and its seasonal variation was observed and maps of water availability in each Union council of Karachi using software ArcMap 10.1 were also developed for the quick and better interpration. Use of modern state of the art Remote sensing data coupled with GIS for the monitoring of land resources has proved very significant for evaluating the potential of resources in different administrative units for planning and decision making.

Gene Ontology Tools: A Comparative Study

Abstract: Gene ontology (GO) is a key initiative of bioinformatics to provide uniform description of gene product in different public databases. The GO project has initiated 3 (three) structured and organized controlled vocabularies (i.e. ontology) that describes gene products in term of cellular components, biological processes and functions in an independent of species. This resource saves lots of time and effort in finding information of any particular gene from different databases. Since 1998, many tools have been developed which at one end relieves the researchers to search particulars about gene products but at other end makes difficult to opt most appropriate tool for any certain investigation in gene ontology. Here we present the state-of-the-art web based GO tools currently used for biological ontologies. We adopt comparison methodology in conjunction with visualization capabilities and sources of annotation data. This paper considers three GO tools for the said purpose. In Visualization capabilities; Indented List, Node-link & tree and Zoomable capabilities of selected tools have been analyzed. In the data sources section; currently available sources for data annotation have been discussed. This review will facilitate potential users of the GO tools to select an appropriate tool for their need.

A Comparative Study of Production Performance and Egg Quality Parameters of Naked-Neck and Indigenous Aseel Chicken of Pakistan

Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate production performance and egg quality of four different varieties of native Aseel chicken in comparison with naked neck. A total of 105 adult chickens, 21 birds from each of four varieties of Aseel namely Lakha, Mushki, Peshawari and Mianwali, and 21 birds from naked neck, were maintained separately. The data of daily egg production, daily egg weight and weekly egg quality were calculated for up to ten weeks and analyzed under Completely Randomized Design (CRD) through SAS 9.1 software. Comparison among treatment means were made through Duncan’s Multiple Range (DMR) test. The results showed that egg production of Naked-neck (47.42) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of Mushki (34.08), Lakha (31.43), Mianwali (29.59) and Pesahwari (28.7). However,egg weight of Naked-neck (57.52) and Peshwari (55.65) was significantly greater (P<0.05) compared with lakha (54.03), Mushki (53.7) and Mianwali (51.62). Regarding egg quality traits, shell % of Peshawari (13.57) and Nakedneck (13.16) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of Lakha (11.89), Mushki (10.19) and Mianwali (9.36). Similarly, Haugh Unit Score of Naked-neck (82.76) and Peshawari (81.95) was significantly greater (P<0.05) than other varieties of Aseel. Albumen % was significantly higher in Mushki (61.83) variety (P<0.05) while yolk % was significantly higher in Mianwali (59.36) variety of Aseel (P<0.05) whereas yolk index showed non-significant (P>0.05) difference in Naked-neck and all varieties of Aseel.
