Magdalena Panek - Profile

PanekShe graduated from Jagiellonian University Medical College in Cracow. She obtained her master's degree in nursing in 2010. She has been working as a nurse at the University Children's Hospital of Cracow in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since 2008.

After graduation, she obtained a specialization in the field of nursing anesthesia and intensive care. Her commitment to scientific activity resulted in the preparation and defense of her doctoral thesis as part of her doctoral studies (2017). Her dissertation was about pain treatment and management in Polish neonatal units. She's completed professional internships in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Clinical Hospital Anna Mazowiecka in Warsaw (2013) and at the Neonatal Pathology and Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital in Turku, Finland (2018). She is a member of the Scientific Council of the Polish Journal, Journal of Pain. Her main scientific interest is focused on the nonpharmacological and pharmacological methods of pain relief and pain assessment in newborns.

Additionally, she is interested in evaluating the parent's activity in the intensive care unit for the newborn. She is the first author of 7 scientific papers and co-author of 15 congress abstracts. She was the organizer of training conferences for nurses and midwives in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2024, in which 150 participants from southern Poland took part. She has an ongoing scientific project entitled: "Cultural adaptation of the N-PASS scale (Neonatal Pain, Agitation and Sedation) for assessing pain in newborns".
